FREICLEAN 43 is a liquid, alkaline, heavy-duty descaler for steel. FREICLEAN 43 will also remove oily soils and is designed for immersion applications.
Liquid, alkaline, heavy-duty cleaner/descaler for steel. Freiclean 43 is particulalry effective at removing heavy and difficult to remove oil films.
FREICLEAN 43 may be used at concentrations of 5-20% by volume, depending on the soils to be removed. The operating temperatures may vary from 180-200°F. The higher temperatures facilitate removal of scale. The normal processing time is 3-15 minutes by immersion.
The FREICLEAN 43 solution may be monitored by titration of the free alkali as follows:
Pipette a 5 ml sample of the FREICLEAN 43 solution into a suitable beaker or Erlenmeyer flask and add 4 drops of Indicating Solution 3 (Phenolphthalein). Titrate the pink solution with Testing Solution 20 (0.1N H2SO4) until the pink color is just removed from the solution. Records the mls of Testing Solution 20 used as Free Alkali points.
A FREICLEAN 43 solution prepared at 10% by volume will have a titration reading of approximately 20 points Testing Solution 20.
Addition of 5 gallons (51 pounds) of FREICLEAN 43 per 1000 gallons will raise the titration by 1 point.
Pipette a 5 ml sample of the FREICLEAN 43 solution into a suitable beaker or Erlenmeyer flask and add 4 drops of Indicating Solution 2 (Bromocresol Green) and 50 mls of deionized or distlilled water. Titrate the blue solution with Testing Solution 20 (0.1N H2SO4) to a yellow endpoint. Records the mls of Testing
Solution 20 used as Total Alkali points.
Concentration by volume:
Calculate the concentration as follows:
Free Alkali Points x 0.5 = % by Volume of active Freiclean 43
Cleaner Life Analysis
Cleaner life determination test uses the total to free alkalinity of a cleaner to approximate how contaminated the cleaning solution is.
TA/FA Ratio: Divide the total alkali reading by the free alkali reading to obtain the TA/FA ratio.
When the total alkali/free alkali > 1.4 to 1.5 it is generally time to dump the cleaner.
This is only a general recommendation. Running this test on a routine basis and comparing the results to the actual cleaner performance can determine more specific dump point parameters. Other Factors such as production through-put; subsequent part performance; cleaner age; type and amount of soils removed; and operational experience need to be considered and employed when determining to terminate use of a cleaner.
CAUTION: This material is strongly alkaline and may cause burns to skin and eyes.
