Freibornite HZ-10 is an immersion zinc/iron phosphate coating bath designed to provide an excellent base for rust preventative coatings. Freibornite HZ-10 is lower sludging than conventional iron side zinc phosphate solutions and incorporates a scale reducing compound for ease of maintenance.

To charge the tank, fill to the three quarter level with water and add approximately 14 gallons (159lbs) of FREIBORNITE HZ-10A for each 100 gallons of required working volume. Bring the solution up to the working level with water and heat, with mixing, to the operating temperature range of 175°F to
195°F. Now add 2 lbs of ADDITIVE 3 for each 100 gallons of working solution and mix. The ADDITIVE3 should be predissolved in hot water to facilitate mixing. ADDITIVE 3 should be predissolved in hot water to facilitate mixing. ADDITIVE 3 is only needed when the working solution flips onto the nitrite side, or on starting up of a new bath.

Normal testing and control is performed through total acid and iron content titration as described.

Addition of 3.6 lbs (2.4 pints) of FREIBORNITE HZ-10B per 100 gallons will increase the Total Acid by 1 point. Only under conditions of mechanical loss or if the TA/FA ration drops below 3.8 points, should FREIBORNITE HZ-10A be used for replenishing the bath. Addition of 4.5 lbs (3 pints) of FREIBORNITE HZ-10A per 100 gallons will raise the Total Acid by 1 point.

Depending on the specific operation – including the load factor in the process tank, the quantity of production, the level of high verses low carbon stock processed – variations in the above replenishing schedule may be required for optimum performance. The final recommendations are best left to Freiborne service personnel during initial operation.

Caution: FREIBORNITE HZ-10 chemicals are corrosive. Do not use without first consulting the Material Safety Data Sheet.
