Economical heavy meatal accelerator free reduced sludge product that provides a heavy zinc phosphate coating with excellent corrosion resistance when finished with oil, stain or paint. Freibornite HZ-NS applies less coating than Freibornite HZ-2.

Freibornite HZ-NS is a nickel free reduced sludge phosphate that provides a heavy, zinc phosphate coating with excellent corrosion resistance when finished with oil, stain or paint.

• The process tank should be constructed from stainless steel or an acid and oxidizer resistant composite material that will withstand the temperature ranges required. Use of mild steel will result in shortened equipment life due to chemical attack.

• Heat transfer surfaces should be constructed of 316 stainless steel, or an acid and oxidizer resistant high temperature composite, if steam or heat transfer fluid type heat exchangers are used.

• Piping and pumps may be constructed of stainless steel, mild steel, or an appropriate composite material. Use of mild steel will result in shortened equipment life.

To charge the tank, fill to the 3/4 level with water and heat the water to approximately 120 F. Add 500 lbs. (40 gallons) of Freibornite HZ-NS per 1000 gallons of working solution. Bring to the operating level with water and heat to the operating temperature range of 160°-180°F. When building a new bath add approximat ely 40 lbs. per 1000 gallons of Additive #3 prior to processing to put a minimum amount of iron into solution. Failure to do so will result in light coatings and inferior corrosion resistance. Treatment time is usually 5-20 minutes.

Total Acid: Pipet a 5ml sample into a beaker, add 50 mL’s of deionized water and 5 drops
Indicating Solution #3. Titrate with Testing Solution #11 (TS11) to a faint pink color. The milliliters of TS11 used = Total Acid Points. A solution prepared as described above will result in a 12 point bath.

Iron: Take a 10ml sample and add about 15 drops of Testing Solution #44 (TS44) with 50 mls of deionized water. Titrate with Testing Solution #18 (TS18) to a permanent pink color. Each milliliter of testing Solution #18 =
(1) iron point.

The Total Acid concentration should be increased as iron builds up in solution in accordance with table 1 or by calculation from equation 1. An addition of 3.3 gallons of Freibornite HZ-NS per 1000 gallons of operating solution will increase the total acid by 1.0 points.

When starting-up a new bath, some iron must be added to the bath by adding ADDITIVE 3, processing scrap parts, adding steel wool, or
retaining a small amount of used solution.

When the iron gets so high as to interfere with coating the solution should be discarded, in whole or in part, and a new bath prepared.
